Thinking of the project I’ve been noticing my favourite sounds from Victoria Road. One slightly misty evening the sound of the electronic beacon pinging in the harbour, later the sound of the swing going backwards and forwards in the playpark and this morning at 4.30 am the sound of boat engines and seagulls disturbing the peace – calm returned by 5ish with just the occasional gull or car passing. I miss the sound of the Torry coo – the old foghorn at the lighthouse. The coo (cow) sounded in fog or summer haar until it was taken out of service. Maybe someone remembers exactly when it last sounded.
